PUSS IN BOOTS 1/2 (PG) Some adventure action and mild rude humor. With interest in "Shrek" waning over recent years, DreamWorks has been toying with a Puss in Boots spinoff since the character was first introduced in 2004's "Shrek 2." Turns out, it was worth the wait; this prequel brings all of the energy and excitement back without ever mentioning the legendary ogre. Who knows where it will go from here? 90 minutes.
THE WAY (PG13) Some thematic elements, drug use and smoking. Martin Sheen stars as a father who copes with the death of his son by finishing uggs uk outlet a Spanish pilgrimage the younger man had just started. It's a heartfelt adventure that gives one the sense of belonging we humans seem to have forgotten. It's a breath of fresh air. 121 minutes.
J. EDGAR 1/2 (R) Brief strong language. Clint Eastwood and Leonardo DiCaprio try to tell the story of a powerful man who lived comfortably in secrecy. J. Edgar Hoover was so good at it, we still don't know anything new. It shows in this longwinded, but wellacted, biographical tale. 137 minutes.
MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE 1/2 (R) Disturbing violence and sexual content, nudity and language. Elizabeth Olsen, the younger cheap ugg boots sister of MaryKate and Ashley, offers a powerful performance in the tale of a cult's power over a young victim. The acting and direction are firstrate, while the subject material is very unsettling. 101 minutes.
TOWER HEIST 1/2 (PG13) Language and sexual content. A good comedic cast tries to pull of a daring robbery 50 floors above the Manhattan sidewalks, and the filmmakers want you to laugh. It's semifunny until the actual robbery, and then it becomes semiterrifying which equals a semigood movie. 104 minutes.
Also being released:APOSTLE PETER AND THE LAST SUPPER (Not rated) Journey back to biblical times in this faithbased drama telling the tale of Jesus and Peter, the latter of whom rose up from common beginnings to become a prominent figure in the history of Christianity. 88 minutes.
HONEY 2 (PG13) Sexual situations, profanity. A talented, yet troubled, dancer attempts to turn her life around by focusing on her one true passion, and trains a scrappy young crew to compete against one of the best dance troupes in the country in this highenergy sequel. 111 minutes.
INKUBUS (R) Gore, nudity, profanity, sexual situations. The final shift at a condemned police station turns terrifying when a demon walks through the front door with a severed head, and a shocking series of confessions. 88 minutes.
LONDON BOULEVARD (R) Drug content, graphic violence, nudity, profanity. A South London gangster emerges from three years in prison and becomes a bodyguard for a famous actress, only to be sucked back into the shady underworld by a ruthless crime lord in this gritty crime drama starring Colin Farrell. 103 minutes.
THE MIGHTY MACS (G) This sports drama stars Carla Gugino as Cathy Rush, a women's basketball coach in the early 1970s. With almost no resources for the sport, Rush is hired by a small college and commits herself to turning a nearly nonexistent team into a national competitor. 100 minutes.
RETREAT (R) When a young couple (Cillian Murphy, Thandie Newton) decide to take a vacation in the wilderness, a secluded cabin located far from the reaches of civilization seems like the perfect location. But things turn sour when a crazed, injured soldier shows up at their door. 86 minutes.
THE SAINTS OF MT. CHRISTOPHER (Not rated) A celebrated college basketball coach fights to regain his reputation after a tragedy involving one of his star players, only to find racial tensions threatening to sink his career forever. 88 minutes.
THE SON OF NO ONE (R) Profanity, violence, sexual situations. In this police thriller, a young officer (Channing Tatum) is assigned to the Queens precinct he grew up in. But when an unsolved murder threatens to reveal dark secrets from his past, he is forced to break his own moral code to keep himself, his family and his fellow cops safe. Al Pacino also stars. 94 minutes.
THE SPACE BETWEEN (Not rated) A tragedy brings together two strangers in this independent drama. Montine McLeod is a 40something flight attendant who is increasingly unhappy with her life; her mother is in the latter stages of Alzheimer's disease, her brother is a minister whose congreation has turned their back on him, and she's been relying on alcohol to deal with the stress of her job and her family. 86 minutes.
WAR OF THE ARROWS (Not rated) A 17thcentury Korean archer embarks on a treacherous mission to save his younger sister after she is kidnapped by Manchurian soldiers on her wedding day. 122 minutes.
